Serge Rousseau, a Canadian sailor, sent me some pictures of the installation of its iPad on his yacht. He wrote me :

The company has just introduced ShipModul on its website its new wireless multiplexer, the Miniplex-2Wi. This device comes in direct competition to the IMUX Brookhouse, on which I wrote several posts on this blog, but penalized since early 2011 by delivery prohibitive for France.

Announced on this blog in September (¹), the housing AxcessPoint company Iridium can now make requests and receive files from a GRIB weather iPad or an iPhone on the high seas, into the wild, anywhere on the world.
Having implemented and tested this solution on a long journey, I can say that it is fully operational.

Just published, call number 20 th, my previous post about iPhone 4S new GPS chipset – to receive signals from the Russian GLONASS system – in which I inserted a skeptical comment about the future of Galileo, I find myself caught up in the news.

iFixit et Chipworks, the two major U.S. websites about dismantling of electronic devices of all kinds, have both recently shelled iPhone 4S not to mention its GPS chipset.
Yet, in a new page of its website concerning the technical specifications of the iPhone 4S, on its website, Apple announces October 19 th location based on assisted GPS and GLONASS. Damned !

The Iridium driver in Mac OS X Lion : details

I was alerted by several users unable to install the driver provided by MailaSail (*) to set Iridium connection with Mac OS 10.7 Lion. While install processing, the driver requires the presence of the iSync utility without which it will not install.

Plan2Nav the C-Map charting on iPhone/iPad

The application Jeppesen Marine Plan2Nav arrived on iTunes AppStore during September for iPhone and iPad.
As I detailed in a previous post (¹), the Italian company C-Map has been owned 2007 by the US Jeppesen, leader in aerial mapping, depending on the Boeing group. We knew that Jeppesen was preparing an application for smartphone, Panbo had seen a draft in March at the Miami Boat Show, is now done, but…
