The Chart Manager of MacENC can use many types of charts altogether, each type consisting of an independent folder.
- ENC charts in ENC catalog (ENC_ROOT, ENC_ROOT1, ENC_ROOT2, etc.)
- The raster charts in folders that you previously created.
- The Navionics in predefined folders per region for download.
I gave the steps to proceed download and install ENC charts on my website video tutorial MacENC n° 1, and the procedure for Navionics charts in this article in the blog.
The Chart Manager :
The chart catalogs ENC (example : NOAA ENCs) are added to the Manager buttonAdd a catalog ENC… ". The downloaded file is named by default ENC_ROOT and contains all the cells of the cards you have chosen. If you install a different catalog, before it will rename the first folder ENC_ROOT ENC_ROOT1, then 2, etc.. otherwise it is overwritten by the last added to the Manager.
The raster chart folders are added to the Chart Manager button Add a chart folder… ". You can add as many folder as desired.
Navionics folders are also added to the Chart Manager buttonAdd a chart folder… ". Each Navionics region consists of a folder can be renamed.
Charts view
charts ENC and raster can be displayed overlay on the World Map. The selection is made in the "View" menu.
charts raster charts can be overlayed on the World Map, and also on ENC charts.
charts i.e. Navionics can not be overlayed on other types of charts. Beyond a certain scale, that they no longer coastlines no details. The best in this case is to use raster charts in large scale or the World Map, or a large coverage ENC chart.
With the menu "View "You can alternate the types of charts covering the same geographical area, or the position received from GPS, without using the Chart Manager.
MacENC, Unlike GPSNavX that only reads raster charts, can therefore use a larger number of managed chart formats in the Chart Manager.
