Alas, it was too good ! On 15 last March I wrote an enthusiastic note announcing the option to renew for 900 days, for half the original price of each Navionics region, time to update charts. As we say in Martinique : ça a pris fin !
Actually, since a few days the renewal was reduced to one year. Fugawi commercial service, which manages the charting website X-Traverse, explains :
We were lucky at X-Traverse to have been granted a wider time frame for renewals from Navionics as an introductory offer for early 2013. We were «catching up» for a long period of months were we did not have any 50% discounted renewal program to match the 50% discount Navionics offered in the Freshest Data program.
In the "My Account" page of your personal data plan, in the lower left, there is a link titled : Renew my existing chart or map licenses that, in good French means : renouveler mes licences de cartes en cours.
The page that opens your shopping list and offers you renew your license after their expiration date, about 365 days after activation.
[Update-2] Renewal returns to 365 days, after several months 900 days, the unchanged price of 50% the initial purchase region price.
In the right column "Time Limit" is the number of days that you can benefit of this renewal offer, about the number of days remaining + 60 days, to maintain constantly charts updated.
In the spring 2012 the selling price of the iPad folios were increased (¹) and uptime, that is to say, the time that the region are stored on personal data plan for updates will, was reduced from two years to one year :
I admit that I still struggle to understand the evolution of Navionics trade policy . Especially as Navionics does not communicate the changes to users. The commercial service Fugawi defends himself :
X-Traverse's chart renewal time frame changes according to the requirements of the chart vendors. Renewal time frames and prices change according to special time sensitive sale offers, when available. The time frames are subject to change without notice.
That is. Nevertheless Navionics remains main vector charting with global coverage available for all devices, regularly and reliably updated, and reasonable price for iPad and iPhone. I have yet, to date, not find better.
[NOTE] For buyers of my tutorial «Navigate with iNavX» sur iBookStore, Technical difficulties have prevented the update from Navionics trading conditions in the work. These problems arise on occasion update are under investigation by U.S. and Apple should be, I hope, quickly resolved.
(¹) Prices for MacENC have not changed, and very few for iPhone.
